Damanhur occupies the Valchiusella valley — a glacially-formed alpine valley in the Canavese area of Piedmont, between the Dora Baltea river plain and the Gran Paradiso National Park.
The valley is one of the reasons Damanhur's founders chose this location in 1975 — its geology, hydrology, and position at the intersection of what the community calls synchronic lines. The surrounding landscape is as much a part of the Damanhur experience as the underground temples.
Damanhur describes the valley as sitting at the intersection of major 'synchronic lines' — subtle energy pathways analogous to ley lines. The Temples were positioned underground at the specific intersection point identified by geomantic survey in 1975.
The Canavese area offers Medieval castles, hot springs at Terme di Acqui, Gran Paradiso National Park (40km), and the UNESCO heritage Ivrea industrial city. Worth combining with a Damanhur visit for a fuller Piedmont trip.
