Mosaic, Music, Film & Sacred Art

Arts &
Culture

The Temples of Humankind are the world's most ambitious community art project. Mosaic, stained glass, sculpture, painting, sacred music, and documentary film — created entirely by community members over 50 years.

Art as
Spiritual Act

At Damanhur, art is not decoration — it is practice. Every mosaic in the Temples, every musical composition, every sculpture was created by community members as a spiritual act — an offering to the collective vision and to future generations.

The School of Sacred Art (Damanhur Crea nucleus) trains practitioners in mosaic, painting, sculpture, sacred music, and digital arts — always within the symbolic and spiritual framework of the Damanhurian tradition.

Mosaic &
Temple Art

The nine underground halls contain 8,500 m² of hand-crafted mosaics, Tiffany glass, fresco, and sculpture — all created by community members.

Venetian Glass Mosaic
Over 2 million individual tesserae — glass, stone, gold leaf, and mirror. The Hall of Water mosaic alone took 8 years to complete.
Tiffany Stained Glass
Large-format Tiffany panels in the Hall of Metals encode the alchemical system of elements in colour, form, and light.
Fresco Painting
Hall of Earth features the largest underground fresco programme in the world — 600m² of direct-on-stone painting.
Stone Sculpture
The Labyrinth and Hall of Mirrors feature stone-carved bas-relief and free-standing sculpture by community artists.
Sacred Geometry Design
Every surface follows a rigorous symbolic programme — sacred geometry determines proportion, colour, and iconographic content.
Community Authorship
All work is collective. No individual is named as 'the artist' — the Temples are entirely communal creations.
Sacred Music

Music at
Damanhur

Music is a core practice at Damanhur — from plant concerts to ceremonial composition to the acoustic design of the underground halls.

Damanhur's musical tradition encompasses three distinct streams: the Music of the Plants (bioelectrical plant performances), sacred ceremonial composition (used in Oracle ceremonies and seasonal festivals), and the acoustic design of the Temples themselves — whose underground chambers were specifically designed to produce resonant harmonic effects.

The community has produced over 40 albums of sacred music, plant concert recordings, and ceremonial compositions. Available on Damanhur's SoundCloud and streaming platforms.

Plant Concerts
Live bioelectrical music from the Sacred Woods. Over 40 years of concerts documented.
Ceremonial Composition
Original sacred music composed for the Oracle, equinox, and solstice ceremonies.
Acoustic Architecture
The underground halls were designed for specific acoustic properties — resonant chambers for ceremonial use.

The School of
Sacred Art

The School of Sacred Art (based at Damanhur Crea nucleus) offers training in mosaic, painting, sculpture, and digital sacred art. Students work directly in the ongoing artistic programme of the Temples and community spaces.

  • Professional mosaic — traditional and contemporary techniques
  • Sacred painting — fresco, icon, and symbolic systems
  • Sculpture — stone, bronze, and mixed media
  • Digital sacred art — geometry, animation, and installation
  • Sacred architecture — design for ceremony and spiritual use
Commission Sacred Art

Damanhur's artisans accept commissions for sacred art installations — Selfic panels, mosaic murals, and ceremonial objects. Contact welcome@dhwelcome.org for commission enquiries.

Falco's Personal Art

Oberto Airaudi (Falco Tarassaco) was a prolific visual artist whose work appears throughout the Temples — including the central mosaic programmes of the Hall of Metals and the Androgyne Hall. A selection is available for viewing during guided temple visits.

The Temples
on Film

The Temples of Humankind are the world's most filmed underground sacred site — BBC, Atlas Obscura, Geographics, and dozens of independent documentaries.
